We often forget how important it is to build students' vocabulary. In order to become better readers, students must build their vocabulary. In schools today, the focus has been primarily on spelling skills and comprehension of terms has been secondary. You make a good point! As an art teacher, I teach vocabulary daily, integrating new words into art lessons. It is good to use every opportunity to broaden students' vocabulary, making them better readers. Students will also improve test scores in all subjects by increasing their vocabulary.
